Exceptional Children’s Preschool Teacher

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, performs a variety of professional work to assist in the coordination of the Exceptional Children’s Preschool Services for Cherokee County Schools. Work involves functioning as a consultant to schools and community agencies and ensuring the implementation of required policies and procedures affecting students with disabilities. Employee is responsible for reviewing psychological reports, medical reports, and achievement test results to help determine eligibility and placement of students with disabilities. Employee is responsible for developing and implementing IEPs for children ages 3 - 5. Employee is responsible for gathering and maintaining the necessary data utilized to report for Indicators 7, 11, and 12 in a timely manner. Employee is also responsible for gathering and maintaining the necessary data and documentation to support the federal grant for Preschool Services for Exceptional Children Program.Work is guided by and must be in compliance with Policies Governing Services for Children with Disabilities.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Attend Regional and State meetings for the Preschool Exceptional Children Program.
• Assists in assuring compliance with state/federal regulations and policies
• Schedule and conduct countywide  IEP  meetings  for  preschool  students  served  in  the  Exceptional  Children’s Program
• Coordinates transition of children from Early Intervention to School Services Coordinates all initial referrals for preschool children.
• Coordinates the provision of related services and evaluation services for preschool students in the Exceptional Children’s Program
• Plans and conducts screenings at community based center
• Serves as a member of LICC (local interagency)Serves as a liaison between the school system and other agencies involved in referral, placement, and delivery of services (child find)
• Meets regularly and consults with members of EC staff to discuss matters affecting students qualifying for exceptional children’s services
• Maintains records and documentation necessary for the execution of the job and as required by the exceptional children’s department
• Collaborates with CDSA
• Performs other related work duties as required by other Exceptional Children Teachers (ie. attend Exceptional Children Staff Meetings, attend Professional Development that support students in the Preschool Exceptional Children program)

 MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in Special Education or a related field, and at least 3 years of successful teaching experience with students that have disabilities; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
